WOOD-FIRED PIECES

Photography by Allen Byram

These pots were fired in a kiln that uses wood as a fuel. It is fired over many days, so that the ash can settle on the pots. When the kiln reaches temperature, salt is introduced into the kiln. The accumulated ash and salt melt to form the beautiful surface you see. Some colored slips and stains have been applied before the firing      as design elements, and the insides are glazed, to make these pots totally safe and useable. All are made with porcelain clay except where noted.
